this is goin into my faves. i love the "lost puppy" look his/her face. the chain link fence adds so much to this already strong shot.

This shot makes dog lovers whimper --- how cute! I love the focus and how you can make out that there is a fence, but it is not too distracting. A great message here and an outstanding shot!! :)

I have looked at this picture several times, and I'm sorry I have not yet commented on it. It is a beautiful picture. Love the black and white. I too thought this was set up to look like he was really looking for a home. Breaks my heart that it is a true expression. Stunning capture.

I was really hoping this was a pet set up to look like a adoptee. I was sad to hear it was real. Poor guys. I really applaud your efforts in the cause. GOOD LUCK! Wonderful picture.... I didn't have a chance to vote, but this one really hit the challenge and was a heart yanker.

Congratulations Sue :)

I think the SPCA (as well as the animals)will benefit from a series of pictures from you, you seem to have the nack for capturing animal emotions, as for the series - go do it now!

Hey Sue, congrats on the placement!

I did not vote in the challange, and I don't think I would have scored your photo highly if I did. There's something about caged animals that really get me angry.

But having read more of what you're writtin, I think it's a great idea! This image certainly does send out vibes of hope, and looking at those dogs eyes really make me want to cry, and run and pick it up and take it home.

One of the most powerful photos I've seen on here. Added it to my faves, and good luck if you ever get that camaign off the ground! This photo is a great start.

Thanks to everyone for their wonderful comments and support. A top ten finish.........still can't quite believe it!

This is a subject very dear to my heart ...ultimately want to make a series of images to used for an awareness campaign for the SPCA. With the knowledge I'm gaining here at dpc this is becoming an achieveable goal.

Thanks again

Great display of hope. I like the fence, it adds to the whole meaning of the photo. Looks great in B&W. (10)

Good luck...

I think if you took the collar off this would have been a really great shot & would have fit the title & challenge better. For the most part, it is a great shot & techniquely well executed.

So well caught. The composition is great. The b/w works well. The look on the dog's face. So much emotion here. Very well done.

This is a very moving image. I can clearly see the connection the challenge topic. There's such a sad ambiance to this image because one wonders whether the poor animal's hopes for a new home are in vain. The eye contact is the most powerful aspect of the image fo me and I like that none of the wire fence interrupts the main part of his face. The way that the low DOF throws out the fence works well adn IO like the way that the inside of his shelter is completely dark. The way the entrance to it curves in a full arc is a nice contrast to the squares of the fence wire. All round strong composition.

I like this photograph but I would of prefered the wire to be a little more in focus.

Great capture. Good composition. The b&w is done perfectly here, to my eye. I like the way the chain link shows up in the foreground against the black part of the background, but somehow it gets a little confusing and distracting on the left side of the picture. I am not sure how you could have done it differently, though. 9 from me.
