I finally got a good friend of mine, Dave, to agree to model for me as the embodiment of the addictions of Metallica's classic song, Master of Puppets.
Shot in the Closet of Doom, camera on tripod and remote release used. Dave sat on a chair, wearing a dark hoodie. I made my one and only Woodie into a puppet with the help of some kitchen twine and Weldbond glue. (He is *blinded* by a makeshift blindfold of folded-over electrical tape. Made the control rig with 4 popsicle sticks. Had to go buy and then eat 2 cherry popsicles for the sticks alone! Life can be tough! :-) Lighting is classic underlit 'monster' lighting using a diffused floodlight sitting on a stool in front of Dave.
PP: RAW-TIFF conversion, crop, shadows, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, clone out parts of zipper, burn under eyes and on face to deepen shadows, poster edges, resize, sharpen, save for web

post-challenge...yes, an outtake from this shoot was inadvertently entered in Balloons.
This happened because the Challenge page allows you to upload 1-4 images so you can see thumbnails in relation to each other. Sadly I forgot to remove the image from the Balloons entry page, hence the puzzling entry...and as I had rewcently got a DQ, was not allowed to self-DQ! So frustrating but fun, too, as the comments show that some people saw both images :-)
Hope this clears up any confusion.

Totally captivating. I like every single element here. It looks as if there are 4 independent units with their own independence but working in perfect unison.
Hi Susan, really liked the composition of this one. Definitely a good entry that fits the title of the song (which happens to be one of my all-time faves!!) very well! Also, the lighting (looks to be a fire?) really gives it a mysterious and ominous feel that once again fits the challenge.
The only thing I feel didn't really work was the method of processing. The mans' skin seems to have heavy artifacting? I'm guessing it's what you were going for, but not sure how it contributes to the image? It's a little weird, and may work against you by the "purist" voters.
Overall, a great entry...hope it's doing well for you!
Ohh, our puppeteer again, still very scary. Love the image. My only remark is that the song, which I love, makes me think of masses of subtly controlled puppets, while the single puppet makes me think more of Powerslave (up Iron), but that's just me :) 9
