I've taken pics of this door many times for various challenges but it never quite looked how I wanted it to. After an afternoon of walking around downtown Honolulu shooting various doors, I decided to make this my last stop and give it one more try. The late afternoon light really made a big difference, I love how this one turned out.

Here's my outtake which was nice, but was lacking that extra "something":

Darnsies. This is one of my favorites of the challenge.

I think if it had had more of a Pop! it might have scored more highly. *sigh*

So sad... it's wonderful... *sigh again*

I wonder if a bit of saturation of that red door would have helped...

The lighting in this photo gives it an almost magical mystical feel. I like the sparsity of colour and the roughness of the wall.

I need to be honest, out of nearly all the entries in this challenge, this is one the very few that has stirred me at an emotional level. It's not heavily tonemapped or HDR'd, it's just relying on good ol' fashioned light to set the mood. Love the big sweeping shadow across the frame, that absolutely sets the image for me. I'm torn as to whether I'd like to see more light/detail in the door, or if the door is perfect as is. Regardless, a wonderful image, and top 5 for me!
