My take on THIS photo

[Nov. 15th, 2011 06:04:01 PM]

Well I figured this may score low but Thank you all who commented. It seems it had a bit of an impact. I wanted to use one of my kids for this shot to be closer to the original but they weren't having any of it so I did another self portrait. Easier said then done with getting sharp focus on my and get the "blood" drop but I managed. I did several test shots for the lighting before anything else and once I was happy with that I set the autofocus and just tried to get my finger in the right spot and my face etc... Glad I have a remote shutter release cable. As for the blood I tried several things but in the end I found dark molasses worked the best.

It might be easier to check your pulse, or breathe on a mirror. Not my thing, doesn't say golden ratio to me, but very good lighting and processing. 7

That's a good sign.

Interesting intention. The hand though as it appears sort of randomly cropped in a corner, lacks force and interest.

I'm not sure what it is but the eyes in this almost look false, like there's an unusual amount of the whites on show. Strange. It distracts me from the focus a bit. I definitely don't like the title. I'm not overly keen on the subject personally either but the bokeh and focus on the fingertip are very good.

Very suggestive. If there is one thing, a slightly longer focal lens might have compressed things a bit, this way the finger looks a bit distant from the face, as it belonged to someone else. But maybe that was the intention. I wonder how it would look if you were looking at the viewer. I really like your vision in this and other of your photographs.

That one is very good. The depth of field really adds here, and the composition absolutely fits the challenge (one of the few!). I obviously also love the creativity!

Personally, think it would've been a much better shot without your face in it. Rather there be negative space drawing the eye and full attention to the finger.
