 The idea was to play with the concept of despair, hence the time on the clock, the positioning of the pieces, the cigarette, and the impending suicide.

Lightning include:

Softbox with 580EX II to the right, slightly higher than camera (1/16).
Bare 430EX II to the left, head high (1/8).
430EX II shot through umbrella in front of subject(1/8).

Tried to give it photograph a 50's feel in post. Edited entirely in LR3.

Shot in my friends apartment, standing on a chair.

Cool shot, as a fellow southpaw (sinistral in latin) I notice the orientation of things other than the pistol. But I don't understand the suicide attempt. What was at stake for winning the game. I guess that was the reaction you were going for.
