Challenge: Vanishing Point (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Flowergarden in Reykjavik
Date: Aug 10, 2004
Aperture: f/16
ISO: 200
Shutter: 30 sec
Date Uploaded: Aug 10, 2004

This photo was taken around midnight the last day of the challenge. This is my third challenge, and my third last minute entry. All taken the last hours of the challenges. But now I put more effort in it and I hope it pays up. I went to a garden in Reykjavik (the "Central park" of Reykjavik) and spent 1-2 hours shooting long exposure photos. I had the most fun, got many ideas and had a very difficult 1-2 hours after that choosing the "right" photo for the challenge, and I am not sure I've chosen the best, maybe I post some of the other ones in the DPC forum to get response about that.
Anyhow, for this shot I put the camera on self timing on tripod for 30 seconds and ran to this point where I sat down with my flash and shot few shots with it towards myself to light me up and the area around me. I hope you like it.

Very nice shot the use of the figure adds interest to what might have been a bit of a bland shot.

It took me a while to realize that it was a guy that was sitting on the ground - I first thought he was sitting on a wheelchair! I found it a bit underexposed for my liking - maybe a curves adjust?

Unique composition. It makes stop and examine the photo. Definitely potrays the theme very well.

Nice idea but I think the glare from the lights is very distracting

The point is to never under any circumstances vote a 2 on any of Jacko's photos. Ok, I'm being a smart ass and if you didn't read that thread (don't waste your time) than you have no idea what I'm talking about. ANYWAY... nice job. Very emotive and creatively rendered. A 9 - good job.

This is a very high scorer for me -- but just wanted to mention I think I may have liked it even better without the person. But I am probably the exception.

I like the contrast you got between the yellow, green, and brown. And the bit a blue sky adds interest as does the backlighting on the model. Only thing I didn't like was the light that seems to be shining in my eyes. 9

Trancends to and from digital art... quite an interesting effect with the subject in the lower center of the shot & the natural sky scene adds treamendious balance. Well Done.

I like the surreal vibe to this - and, like you say, there's very little point to it, but does it matter?

Good colors. Clever idea with the light in front of the seating person.

Very cool idea, I think a black border would have looked better, but that doesn't matter. (8)
