Lovely photo. The contrast between the centre and petals is amazing. Took a couple of photos of Magnolias on Sunday but they were different to this one. |

It's a little too cold here for magnolias, but they were heavenly where I grew up in Missouri. Such an exquisite bloom! Fantastic image! |

wonderfully tactile: I can feel the petals stretching out from their soft-boned winter gestation... |

Interesting shapes and texture. There's such a difference between the center and the petals -- two flowers in one! |

Love the crystalline coatings and that one petal that's coming to get me ;) |

I have one of those in my garden; it makes a great subject from Fall through Spring, from fuzzy buds to softly opening ones to blowsy flowers, then back to buds again. It gets little red/orange fruits, too. One of my more favorite flowering trees. |

I love the shift in colour scheme between the petals and centre - all delicate pastel shades. I love magnolias of all sorts, one of the big stars of Spring. We lost ours during the years of drought. It died little by little but if it could only have hung on for one more season it would have had plenty of rain to recuperate.
Interesting info from Pixelpig.

I really like the delicate colours and softening shadows of this shot. I might have chosen to edit out the small spider web visible just over the stamen, but that just me. Lovely flower. |

This is a gorgeous shot, with that clear bright cool light. Beautiful Star Magnolia. Did you know..."Magnolia is an ancient genus. Having evolved before bees appeared, the flowers developed to encourage pollination by beetles. To avoid damage from pollinating beetles, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are extremely tough. Fossilised specimens of Magnolia acuminata have been found dating to 20 million years ago, and of plants identifiably belonging to the Magnoliaceae dating to 95 million years ago." WOW! I looked it up! I love the glimpse in the shadows below of the fuzzy whatever-it-is that covers the bud before it opens. Well done! |

This is a different kind of Magnolia than I usually see - what kind is it? Love the soft colors and the central pistals/stamens. |
