Challenge: Abandon Buildings III (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Sigma DP2
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Date: Aug 5, 2011

I've been trying to get a good picture of this building for over a year. This isn't it.

I stumbled over this site last summer with my Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim in hand, but the shots I got didn't feel right. I revisited it in November with my last roll of Kodachrome. On this trip, a couple dogs attacked me as I was shooting it. Fortunately the owner called them off in time, and I walked away with only a hole in my sweater. (This is in a bad neighborhood if that's not obvious. That says "Crips" in the lower left window.) Anyway, I didn't like the slides any better than what I got from my Viv.

This is my first attempt at a portrait orientation. The powerlines and street lines here don't bother me. In fact I like how they surround the place. But now I'm thinking a square frame will be most effective. And I'm also thinking that the clinical precision of digital isn't going to do the place justice. Yes -- I'm thinking Holga now. And another trip. Maybe in the fall...

usa foods is enough in itself, but the religious icon is the cherry on top. The framing situates it rather well I think.

Do be careful next time, maybe carry some spray or a steak for the doggies.
