 Rosemary = remembrance


After: I love making still life. I took the challenge description to heart and busted out my old art history books, other various dictionaries on symbolism and one Victorian book on the language of flowers. Every piece has a reason for being there...even the light, as it fades from light to dark has meaning.

I started with the rosemary, as I have it fresh at hand, and built around it...and I wanted it to be beautiful.

Well, it IS beautiful. Rosemary as the Herb of Remembrance is an important thing to me, so this resonates. 'Grats on the HM!

Oh -- I missed the cicada the first time around!! I was too proud of myself for knowing that rosemary stood for remembrance, I guess. :)

Well felt and nostalgic. I doubt that the rosemary (?) little branches belong there. Perhaps just the empty bowl. It's always the case when one arranges a still life. Should be just as the say: when you dress up, upon leaving home take out one piece of jewelry that you wear. (I voted early but had no time for comments)
