So DPC has never seen a capture of planets colliding...til now:-)

Originally, I used 25 photos for this creation. And a looooonnnggg list of steps

The original ship - well I wanted it to look like a cross between Steampunk meets Airship meets 1950's space ships. Once I assembled it from all the photos what it looks like is funky weird 'Noah's arc'. I look at it again I see - a big, fat egg with boasters. is what it originally looked like (will move it out of Workshop once the challenge rolls over)

Rocket Ship So thankfully my husband brought home a pen that he got as a gift from a co-worker. I switched it out the last day before rollover. The pen looks like a 1950's spaceship. So I took several more photos of the pen this time. Adjusted color, re-sized and did some touch-up with highlights and shadows & used the jet blasts from the earlier ship for this one.

Space/Galaxy I love how the galaxy turned out. I used the trick of punching holes in a black poster board and photographed it with light shining on the back through the holes. Added several layers of these photos on top of each other and merged for full star field. I had to painstakingly go over it to clone out some stars because there were just too many. I also had to clean up some of the edges because some of the stars (holes with light) were a irregular shaped. Made copy of the star field, blur, color balance and laid it over the star field for a slight glow and the hue you see here.

Nebula and Nebula gas - strong sunlight that outlines the clouds works beautifully for this. Took some photos with different in camera white balance setting. Did color balance on it that brought out blue and reddish/purple hues

Sun, planet glow, planet trail, and jet flares
I'm REALLY glad I kept some sparklers from last year's 4th of July around as spares. You never know when you may need them for a photo shoot:-). I used the photos from this week's shoot of the sparklers and used that for the sun, the firing engines and the planetary glow.

Planets are circle select tool from photos of slate and another from concrete after I used the geometric effect to shape them. The interaction and different layer modes turn them the color that they appear in the image. That took A LOT of trial and error till I came up with a good combo.

Larger stars with ray flares
I got that photo I took of the sun with a different in camera white balance that turned the cast of the photo bluish. I also used it for the collision spark (but had to adjust color).

All told: Took about 100 photos over the course of the week and spent many hours of putting it together.

Let's see if any Babylon 5 fans get the title :-)

Very nice image - wonderful sky, blue/red highlights. Something bothers me about the locations & angles of the ship and the dual planets - too close, maybe, the ship wants to be pointing more at the viewer (like it is coming at them), maybe.
