Children playing on the water-covered plaza of the Crown Fountain at Chicago's new Millenniium Park. It's pretty amazing - children and water. As soon as kids see this fountain, they run toward it and play in the water. No exceptions. The plaza floor is made of black granite that is covered with water - it looks deep but the water is about half an inch thick only - so you can literally walk on water. I've seen babies crawling on it. The fountains are two towers about 50 feet on the opposite sides of the rectangular plaza and are reflected on the water surface. Water cascades on the face of the columnar towers and on one side of each tower facing the plaza, a face of a Chicagoan is projected (they photographed about 1,000 for this) ... about every 15 minutes, the face smiles and then purses its lips and when it does that, water spouts out from the mouth. It is quite a delightful sight as children jostle to be showered by the water. As soon as the spouting is finished, an avalanch of water falls down from the top of the tower - children (and some adults) usually stand under the torrent. I've seen one tourist pose carrying an umbrella. Too funny.

Greetings from the Critique Club
Hello. Let me first of say that I really like the lighting in this image. It is very wise to have the transparent water backlit and it workes very nicely here. Also the way that the light plays on the water adds a nice texture and makes this piece all the more interesting, but I do think that there is a little bit too much water included.
On the flipside, Ditial Quixote could not have said it better...the subject of the [hoto is actually not in the photo. Now I can see your reasoning for this crop/composition---to emphasize the theme of "Feet" but that would not have been necessary. If a whole body was shown, face included, it would have strengthened an already small photo.
Besides that, this is still a very good piece with good use of shutter speed. Seems like you should go back here and shoot a few more times...I'd love to see more shots.
If you have any questions comments or concerns feel free to PM me.

Contrast is good and I like the effect of the backlit splash of water from the stamping of feet and the reflection of light off the water, although, I also think a polorizer may have cut out some of this reflection and improved color saturation and brightness. An interesting photo that meets the challenge well. Good job. |

I have a feeling the subject of this photo is actually not in the photo. It would be a better study of the joy of summer to see kids enjoying it (in their eyes, with their smiles). This is interesting as a study of water in motion, but it could have been much more. |

I like the idea but think the feet should figure more prominently, somehow. |

Excellent shutter speed to capture the water! You could easily crop some off the bottom, making it a slim Jim horizontal. I think that would be more effective. Still a great entry, thanks. |
