We were very lucky during our long planned visit to Yosemite Valley. The first day was forecast to be the only one with reasonable weather for getting good pictures of the view down the valley. However the "unreasonable" weather that came that night came in the form of fresh snow down to 3,000 feet, well below the level of Yosemite valley. By mid-morning the park officials were allowing most vehicles back into the valley, and when they later opened the road up to Tunnel View we drove up there. The classic view from here would include El Capitan on the left, but it was obscured by clouds. There was an exceptionally heavy snow pack this winter and the waterfalls in the park, including the one you can see here, Bridalveil Fall, were spectacular.
It was hard processing a scene of this scale and with this much detail for a small DPC challenge image. Processed using adobe camera raw and Photoshop CS5. I used NIK's HRD Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro 2 filters. I then increased the overall brightness and applied onone's soft black filter to try and bring out the sculptural elements of the scene. Sharpened, reduced, border added, saved for web.
I hope this scores well enough to make it onto my profile page and stay there for a while...

Looks like a classic Ansel Adams shot. Great work. Sorry it didn't make your porfolio page like you wanted but there are some hard ones to beat there. |

Stunning and remarkable view - very well captured! Perfect touch with the processing, too. I thought you were going to go color, though? I quite like it mono - very classic for this scene. |

Be careful. I hear there are bears in Yosemite. (No vote, snarky comment only) |

It's hard for me to look at bc it looks so cold and I am tired of cold weather... BUT it is a really great shot. I keep thinking maybe the contrast is a little heavy, but I think you got it just right. 9 |

Wow! Beautiful and dramatic capture Penny. Looks like some post processing was influenced by Bear. |
