More than a hundred xmas lights in a foam board behing a TIE Fighter. I moved the board as the camera took the picture to simulate the stars as the spaceship travels at light speed.

Thanks for your comment, Amor E Morte.
That's a keen observation, about the TIE being unable to go to hyperspace. Being also a SW fan, I do know that, but the TIE fighter is a highly recognizable icon from Star Wars. So I still decided to do it. Also, the TIE is way cooler than the XWing, visually.

I was browsing old challenges and come across this
picture! Damn, I love it!
Im huge SW fan.

But, there is this one thing that bugs me...
Well you see... Tie Fightar can't go into warp speed
(light speed).
But who the hell knows that anyway ;)

Great photo! :) It would be 9 from me (-1 for light speed)
he,he... :)

Cheers!

"Critique Club Comment"

COMPOSITION- Very great idea for the motion challenge. You cropped the shot very well for the theme of you picture. Creative idea with the light. Maybe you could have added just a little more lights to fill the rest of the space. Other than that I think it's perfect.

BACKGROUND- The lights are perfect for the background. Just a little more to fill the rest of the space.

CAMERA WORK- DOF and shutter speed are great. You hit it great.

DIGITAL PROCESSING- I don't know if it's just a light reflection or little "jaggies" just make sure you save it as close to 150K to keep it as clean as possible. Your levels and colors are great.

MY OPINION- I was lucky to get assigned this shot. I think this should have won. I love it. I'm a big Star Wars fan too. Very great job.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I really love Star Wars, and this is my 2nd Star Wars picture in dpchallenge. I actually have some other scifi pictures here. I had a lot of fun creating the effect of light speed. I punched more than a hundred holes on a black foam board, and put xmas lights in them. The trouble I had was lighting the TIE Fighter. Because I don't have proper lighting, I used two small flashlights that cast a yellow light, so I had to correct the color in Photoshop. Another problem is that my digital camera has no manual control for the shutter speed. I set the timer in the camera which was placed on a tripod, and at the time of the firing of the camera, I quickly moved the board so that I could get the lines of light, similar to the effects in the movies (ha! I wish!). Thanks again to everyone.

Very funny! I'm a big Star Wars fan so you get an extra point from me ;-) You did a good job aligning the TIE fighter exactly to the "laser" strokes of light. I don't like the tight crop especially in the lower half of the photo. -stephan

I'd maybe prefer a little softer frontlighting on the ship, but otherwise well-designed and executed; good use of panoramic crop.

A fun, eentertaining photo. You pulled the lighting off pretty well. Not so sure about the cropping of the image, but it works ok I guess. Nice job.

NIce shot. The tie fighter is really clear. The motion is well captured, even though I don't think it's moving. Great job. - Inspzil

Nice TIE Fighter!! It's nice that the site allows different pixel height and width because the cropping here looks really good. Would love to know how you did this one. 8

This has come out really well, maybe the stars are a bit bright or wide and two black patches top and bottom without stars. Must of been tricky to do. 9 marbo

Great idea! I wish there were a tad of motion blur on the spaceship (I'm pathetic for not knowing what that's called). 9

Very nice! But it looks like the stars are moving faster than the ship. Maybe if the lights were pulled in the opposite direction? hehe (7)
