This was a pure and simple back-lit photo because the background was in deep shadows and I didn't want to blow the highlights the background goes to black. Nothing tricky about it.

Thanks for the great comments.

When I first saw this photo I skipped it, I couldn't decide what score to give it, or what not. Now I'm back, and I feel like I have to explain why I'm giving you a 5.

Whereas the quality of this picture is good, it's sharp and the colours are nice and I really like the composition, I'm not going to score this higher than 6.

I am not saying that you have taken this photo in a studio, or that you haven't, I'm saying that to me this just doesn't feel natural. The light doesn't seem to fall from a natural angle, the background isn't really a background that just appears in the nature, but I also know that there are so many ways to get around this problem.

For me, when I read "In garden and field", I don't read "Must be garden or field visible in the picture", but I do take it as "use the natural light and what the nature brings you and make the best of it". I don't see this in this picture, and therefore I will give this a 6.

Beautiful light - I really like the translucent effect it gives.

the way you've taken this or processed it really makes this LOOK like a studio shot. Me I usually love the deep, deep greens that are missing from this picture and go along with this particular flower (one of my favorites!!!)

it looks like you did it in a studio. not saying its a dnmc, but it still appears to be that.

Beautiful shot, although it looks like it was either done at night or indorrs, but still a 7 for execution...very nice!

again im sure you're getting hammered as it looks "studio" but i completely believe it is outdoors and well processed and executed. having said that, im not crazy about the composition i think i almost would have liked to seen a more shallow dof. still nice enough for a 6

Cool lighting but black background makes it look studio. Hope this doesn't hurt you.

I'd like to know how you got a black background like that outside. Nice shot.
