The difference is subtle, but I do like it better. I think you could even crop more off the bottom if you wanted - maybe a square crop so that the tree isn't so close to the center of the shot. |

Thank you one and all. I followed the suggestions and here is the link to the revised picture. Light's Ebb on the River |

Don't you just hate getting the same comment over and over again? :o)
I guess you just have to think that there must be something to it. I do think that this is a very nice setting. I like the lines of the shore and the tree in the water although I wonder if you couldn't have aimed a little more to the left.
I really do wish the lighting were stronger. The top (back) part of the photo has lost a lot of detail because of the darkness. The evening sun on the right, back bank is very nice. If you could have gotten this in the whole scene then it would be lovely. I also agree that you should crop the bottom of the shot. The new cropping rules are great in that you can pick the shape that works best for the picture. Good focus.
Basically, you already got some very good feedback on this shot. I do like the composition better than your motion shot even if this one is dark. |

I really like the motion of this. It's got wonderful coloring too. |

It looks like you had an excellent picture taking opportunity here. I feel that it would have been a much better shot if you had been closer to the dried up limb in the pond and used it to fill your frame. That may have been imposible, but this distant shot leaves me disinterested. I take pictures like this one too. |

This image reminds me of Salvador DalÃ's imagery and color |

Wow, such rich tones! Something about it just doesn't sit right with me though. I think you've tried to include too much in the photo. A tighter crop around the tree would be very effective, I think. I know that sounds like a very predictable suggestion, but it's what my instinct tells me, not just to make it conform to the usual standards people apply to photos here :). I still rate it pretty highly though, for its colours and light. It's a beautiful shot. |

The first time I saw this, I was pretty hard on it with my scoring, but it deserves better. Excellent detail, and the snag in the middle is lighted really well. I'm betting a lot of folks with the famous uncalibrated monitor are killing you on brightness, because it is a touch dark. I suspect that a print of this would disappoint you because it would come out darker than you think it is. Awesome composition, though!

pretty landscape. i would like it better if the bottom was cropped in a little tighter and it was brightened up a bit |

I like the dead tree and would have liked to see more of it. I feel conflicted between saying it's too dark and being just right. Were you attempting to "set a mood"? Maybe a dramatic view of the tree would help. 6 Swash |

I think the curves in this picture do well to give movement to the picture. Also, the dead tree adds some interest as well. I am gathering from the title that this is a picture that is supposed to be dark, but on my monitor, it is a touch too much so. I think a touch more exposure, or a bit of adjusting of the lightness and contrast might make the interesting details more obvious. |

Excellent capture. The branches in the foreground distract a little. |

It's dark and I expect it won't be wildly popular, but I like it as a very moody image. |

Very dark shot. You may want to see if you could lighten it up a bit in post processing. The composition is OK, I may have moved the crop so the tree is further down in the shot. Good clarity and sharpening. |

Just a bit too dark for my tastes. I like the lighting on the tree and water a lot, but the part at the bottom and top don't add much to the picture. Maybe a tighter crop to only include the middle section would emphasis the light more. = 7 |

This is definitely an image that needs the greyscale below it :o) The blues and oranges work well together, and the mix of ripples and reflections helps add interest to the image. However, I personally would have cropped off the lower quarter (maybe lower third), since I feel that that area doesn't add anything. |

According to my new calibration strips under the photo, this still may be just a bit under-exposed. DPz |

i like the composition and curves in the photo. the title suggests that light is either beginning or ending, but a little more light would make the details more distinguishable. |

I like the effort to show a dusk scene, but it's a bit too dark. I had the exact same problem with one of my entries, and will be interested to see other comment you get. |

I think the darkness of this image, adds to (or rather creats) the mood. Very well seen, and executed. The one detail I would have changed, is the cut-off of the part of the lighter region of water (on the left, in the middle); to me it breaks the very pleasantly flowing shape. A great job, nevertheless. |

Overall a little on the dark side. It seems to suit the picture well, but make it a bit hard to see some of the detail. |

Beautiful detail. I know the point of the image was the ending of the day's light, but this is still quite dark to be effective. |

Nice lighting, pretty scene. Hard to tell the sense of scale (which in this case, I think, is positive). |

It is too dark, and lefts me wanting to see a lot more, because it seems to be a great place for a picture. |

Interesting. Dark, but I assume you did that on purpose. The angle and framing/cropping you have chosen is nice. I really like the curves in the waterline. The darkness does make it a bit difficult to get a lot of detail, however, still a nice shot. Good luck in the challenge. |
