Broad appeal is a fickle thing. |
I didn't mean it in the sense of "why wasn't it 7?" but more like "why wasn't it 6.3 or 6.4?
The welding gives a much nicer lighting effect than I'd've imagined actually.
Love the crop and textures. |

Steve - I was one of the 'not prominent enough crowd'. It is important to note that I love the subject, and thought the shot was good enough to give it a 7.
But...and now you can become annoyed with me if you choose....I immediately saw a different crop if it was my shot. Using the great blue light on the welder's shoulders to frame the top of the image and centering the 'face' and the gold sparks.
Something like this...
Feel free to Grog me if you must.... |

Nice finish, but I still thought it would be top 10! Very nice shot. :D |

This was my favorite in this challenge and only one of the two 10's I gave out. Great work, should have done much better. |

Actually like this the more I see it, there's a real sense of purpose and the tones are subtle |

Interesting, well composed and with great colour. Even though the gold is a small part of the image, it is the attention grabbing part. Well done. |

love the focus created by the blues and golds
Sorry for butting in on your edit but - i just wonder about the crop - the left side of the photo actually seems unnecessary (yeah- the arm would be cut off - but i don't that really matters here) |

It is so fascinating to watch welding! I wish I could take my camera to work, so many fantastic photo opportunities, but I work on Naval vessels so :( no go. Good job capturing something with such a powerful light source, good balance. |
