 One of the first images I found when I joined the site a few years ago was a balloon popping, ever since then I wanted to try it. Finally, I have gotten around to it and really am impressed by my progress over these years. I'm shamed by the tape on my fingers, this was supposed to be just a test shot, but as I continued I couldn't get anywhere near this interesting of a pop without the tape. I'm really hoping I can manage another top score of mine. If this gets above a 6 I will finally meet my long standing goal of having all 6's on my profile. This was the shot that inspired me to try this High Impact.
Setup/editing: this was taken in my bathtub. The backdrop is a black t-shirt hung from a shower basket, the balloon was hung by a black string from the same basket, I used a flash set behind to illuminate the explosion, a boxcutter was used to pop the balloon. For editing I used two sharpening actions and did cloning to remove minor noise caused by the t-shirt and to remove a minor portion of the box cutter that was peeping above my index finger. Dream Score: 6.7. Estimated score: 6.1

I imagine this is very hard to capture. For me, unfortunately, the fingers spoil the shot, especially with the plastic wrapped around them.

I don't understand the purpose of the scotch tape on the fingers, and I think it is distracting. Other than that it's a dramatic capture and well lit.

For sheer technical achievement, close to the top of this challenge. Although to my eye, this seems to be oversharpened to compensate for the slight oof of the left side. Incredibe.
