 Though its expert editing, no editing is done except for cloning some soil and egg debris, color correction, USM and re-size.

The Idea came to me a bit late and was almost sunset. Only had few hours to gather materials, setup, shoot and edit. Did the setup on my work bench. The background is a branch cut down from my garden. The hardest part was cutting the eggshell in half without breaking it, since I had not enough time...

Lighting setup: A 300w studio light from front right at about 45degress. with a small softbox and the rim light from SB900 in slave mode, which also mimicked the sun on the ground surface.

This is my 5th entry in DPC and a ribbon? Wow. I am flattered. And this made more than just a ribbon for me, the third highest rated photo on a Nikon D300s and made in the top 10 highest rated photo taken on Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f2.8D - as of 29th April, 2011.

Motivation has jumped right out of the graph. Many Thanks to everyone.

I love this...the colors, the textures, and for some reason those two roots add a lot IMO. Congratulations!

clever idea very well carried out. complex without being fussy and the lighting is very deft. I like the way you imitated sunshine without throwing the cut away section into shadow. the only quibble is the way the two roots are standing out from the plane of earth and egg. It is nice to have them in the image, but the way they break the plane steals some of the magic.

One of my top two, ought to ribbon.
