CRITIQUE CLUB!

It's late, I know. I'm sorry. I suck.

Great idea for the challenge. A couple of minor tweaks would have really helped this out.

I know that with your camera (at least your OLD camera...congrats on the new one :) ) you couldn't control the shutter speed. A faster shutter would have still given you the idea of motion but not been soooo blurry as it is here. The framing is also very tight -- some more horizontal space would have allowed you to get the entire motion trail captured on each side.

One user left a comment about the contrast, and I have to agree. Adjusting the levels would help this photo tremendously by making the colors so much more distinct. The tutorial I wrote about my "Bound" photo shows my original picture, which was very washed out, and how I fixed that with levels adjustments. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but I just bring it up as an example. If you don't have access to Photoshop, try THE GIMP which is a free alternative. Rumor has it it's pretty good.

Also, the overall quality of the image is just pretty poor. This is unfortunate, but is probably a big reason why your score was not higher. While it appears to be in focus, the artifacting (from sharpening or resizing?) around all of the edges makes it difficult to see what should be definitive lines around the assembly.

Overall, a very good idea. Small tweaks would help this go over much better.

Rob :)

OK, but motion is too subtle in shot.

wow, this is the shot I wanted to do, but I didn't have one of these things...lol. I think not cropping quite so tightly would have been nice, and it seems a little grainy. 5

Good idea but there seem to be a few jpeg artifacts around the balls and frame.

Good choice to shoot BW. A bit sharper and a little more contrast needed tho'. Good white border.

I would like this more if the balls were not dead center on the pendulum. With that device, the balls to stop for a very brief moment, and it seems that you caught that moment.

Nice idea, but why so small? Unfortunately the JPEG compression artefacts are destroying the impression. You used only 11,4 KB, but up to 150 KB are allowed by the rules! Doing so would have made your photo much more clearer... Nevertheless, good luck! - nds

Nice shot. A classic picture. I like the border, the reflections in the balls could have been avoided to improve the shot, and also leveling it a bit better.

Slightly out of focus and off center. Good choice grayscale.

Its fine apart from the low quality compression.

I had thought of doing this, but I don't have one of those doodads! Overall I like the shot, but I think you could have preserved the quality a bit better. The end image is only 11K (we can submit images up to 150K), and there are definitely some .jpg artifacts as a result.

This b&w photo could be drastically improved by changing the contrast. The way that it is currently, it just looks a little too washed out. jgillard4

undersize photo...interesting. Looks a little crowded, or "squashed". Some more room would benefit it.

Save it at a higher compression quality next time. The quality of this picture is ruined by jpeg artefacts, not surprising given the 12kb filesize. The limit is 150kb, there is no reason to ruin your entry by compressing it so badly.
There is something about this in the Tutorials I think.

I was thinking of doing this. Nicely done.
