Grackles fascinate me, because when the sun hits them just right, their head glows blue & sometimes purple -- like an oil slick.

I hadn't really tried photographing grackles before. I usually shoo them away from my feeder because they're greedy and mean to the other birds. So the grackles that came the last couple of days were very nervous and flighty, and difficult to shoot. In a couple of hours, I only had 2 or three shots to work with.

I like this shot a lot -- I like his intensity and the textures, even in the beak. Perhaps it's just the first time I've ever looked at a grackle this closely. :)

I too love the look of Grakles. You have captured the beauty of these birds in a marvelous way. Best shot of the challenge IMHO!

That yellow eye is so piercing.

I like the square crop, the composition is nice as well. the bokeh is lovely. I'm not sure how I'd improve upon this shot.
