The Critique Club

Your photo captures the movement of a subway train very well. One can almost hear the thunder of the wheels. Inevitably the issue of the blurring of the still parts of the photo comes up?I agree that it would be best if they had been perfectly sharp and if that had happened I am sure your photo would have finished even higher than it did?so why didn?t people mark you down more? I am sure it is because in each of us we can feel the train ?hear the noise and feel the rush of air as the train goes past. You captured more than movement you captured the feeling of the subway?the lights?and the movement.

It is hard to criticise the technicalities of the shot?because even if they could be improved one has to bear in mind the circumstances. Exposure is correct for this genre- you have managed to capture details in the compartment?the colours are saturated and strong. Your composition is excellent with the train rushing past with a good view along the side of the train to the end when it disappears into the tunnel. The large window is deep orange and warm with the contrast of the green lighting in the station. The lights on the platform disappear into the distance. Everything emphasises the movement and perspective of a subway train huge and engulfing close to us and disappearing into the distance. The lines of blurring and movement are strong and dominant.

A very good entry.Well done.

Andrew

I like the colours and that you can look inside the train. I also like that can make out some detailt there and that it's not everything blurred. The backgorund and the platform could be a it sharper but I guess the camera was handheld. I submitted a similar photo this week and I know how difficult it is. I like your composition because it gives a nice sense of depth. -stephan

Too bad the cieling is a bit fuzy. This would have been a great shot with that in focus

Background could have been steadier to make the train stand out better, but probably hard to do under ambient lighting.
(ADDED)
Well, I guess you can't be much steadier than that for 2 seconds! Good job!

Great shot. I like the colors of this picture. They are very warm. Great angle used to to show quite a bit of this train. Some whch looks like it's moving very fast, and part of it looks like its standing still - Nice job - Inspzil

Very nice composition - good angle and lines. Would have been cool to have only the train blurry - The ceiling and platform would have been in nice with focus. What subway system is this? Look's like Montreal's.

Good shot, good colours. I like the way you can just make someone out inside the train.

obvious concept, amazing execution. colors are great (greens and oranges being near-compliments) and the blur is not excessive, and captures the motion well. also, the perspective, and the point you choice for the point of perspective (the angle you shot at) makes one's eyes follow the lines of the floor, windows, ceiling, etc, from one end of the picture to the other, which aids the idea of motion greatly. overall, a fantastic picture. 9

it's a cool shot...but the parts that are still, are not sharp. looks like you did this hand held and your shutter was too slow for that. but as just a pic...i like it

The floor and the ceiling are a little blurry. The sharp contrast of those surfaces against the moving train would of looked great! jgillard6
