 A young Beech tree, hanging onto its leaves. On doing some reading about them, it appears that Beech and Oak young trees hang onto their leaves until spring. It is believed that the leaves are held on to provide some additional nutritional head start when the growing season starts. As the trees mature, the Beech eventually grows big enough and the root system deep enough so that the leaves are no longer required....

Kudos to Bear_Music for the title...I struggled mightily with a decent one

This shot has beautiful tones and warmth. The little bits of rain are like sprinkles on a cupcake. They make the shot more so special.

Lovely image. Congratulations on the top 10 finish. Well deserved. I love Beech trees (especially when they're surrounded by a carpet of bluebells!!). This is very evocative. I can almost hear the leaves rustling and if I'm not mistaken the buds are beginning to swell just a bit. Thanks for the background information.
