They are kind of fun. Although, I burned up a Speedlite 430ex in the process of capturing this image. I'd like to have faster lenses for this kind of work.

What lens are you shooting with? I have been using 100 mm.

This image I shot with a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II. Exposure metadata looks like this: f/8; 1/160sec; iso 100.

I believe these lenses are known colloquially as the "ninety-niner". You can pick one up for just under a hundred bones. Resonably fast; incredibly cheap. As a portrait lens they offer a fairly nice bokah effect - although it doesn't take much of an expert to see the difference between results of these lenses and those of a really good lens. I guess the good news it that the family members don't see the difference.

I see you shoot with a Nikon. I'm envious. I'm thankful I haven't dropped a ton of dough into high-end Canon lenses. When I upgrade - I'm moving to Nikon. I'm actualy kind of waiting to see what Nikon does to replace the D700. I've heard predictions of late spring / early summer. I guess we'll see.
