Max With His "Pet" Rock

Composition (Content)
This is not an easy shot to pull off. You are working with a very bright background, a dark dog and back lighting on your subject. These combined make for low details on the dog. Your capture of motion is good as you have, pardon the pun, frozen the snow in mid-air. A fill flash may have helped give the dog more detail as well as better focus. You may have also seen if a crop without the dark area at the bottom would give a stronger composition.

Background
Snow color is good, not blue as sometimes happens when photoing snow.

Camera Work (Technical)
Good shutter speed to capture the dog in flight. Would like to see a tighter focus on the dog as well as the use of a flash to brighten him up some.

Digital Processing (Technical)
Sharpening is fair(Unmask Sharpen might have helped sharpen the edges of the dog against the snow)
Balance between light and dark is fair. (Dog is washed out, but snow isn't blown out)
Compression is good(No noticeable compression artifacts)

My opinion
Good capture of a dog in motion. Most areas that might need attention could have been handled in post processing (sharpen, brightness, contrast). Don't forget to use your flash outside to help minimize dark areas on your subject.

Pet shots tend not to do too well on the challenge. Nice pooch tho'.

The snow turned out great in this, not always easy to do. I think the only thing I would do is crop a little bit off the bottom.

Beautiful capture of the detail (color and texture) in the snow, but the dog is a little dark. Great stop motion capture.
