Steps for these shots


First get a light meter. Very important!

Light 1
my 40w/s bulb that came with my ebay lighting kit. there is no setting on it so I started with that light which is directly overhead for a hairlight. Reading on my light meter f16 iso 100 1/250

Light 2 & 3
My Canon speedlites triggered by AB Cybersyncs. They were also set at f16 to match the lighting on his hair.

Light 4&5
My 150 w/s ebay strobes. Set to f11 or f8 I think. Notice the difference in light.

Then I set my camera to f16 to expose the bright areas correctly, leaving the front of him slightly underexposed.
