One of the most interesting feature of shooting Aurora is the ever changing and almost random pattern they form. Usually they form some kind of an arch over the sky. The shape of it depends on how high it is in the sky. If it is near the horizon the arch shape will be clearly visible. The higher up in the sky the Aurora then it looks less like an arch (because you are under it).

This night was different. There was not clear arch shape, the Aurora was everywhere in many forms.

A regular subject on DPC - but you've done really well with this one. Great definition on the stars, the land features and the differently colored clouds. Nice work.

Great leading lines on the snowy road that leads off to the horizon. Our eye then follows the leading lines of the Auroa Borealis as it trails back up to the sky to focus our attention on the sky full of stars. This is definitely a fabulous display of nature to behold - would love to see it live but for now will have to be content in seeing the beauty in photos. Colors are just gorgeous.

Wow, it's so beautiful. I'm thinking of doing some night photography. What shutter speed and aperture did you use?

So this is what it's like? Read so much about it, from scientific facts to Bill Bryson's comic description. The green must be added for the viewer's benefit. If not, I'll take the first plane to see it! Thanks for a special photo.

Tell me at least that you need to drive more than 10 minutes for this... :)
I am not even trying to judge on the WB because I have never been there.
