 The Image: When I think of an image that best captures my 2010, I can't go past this one. Travelling to the slums of Tacloban a couple of times and doing the work we do, this image captures not only a child, but my heart. We were doing our usual walk through the slums, and I spotted this girl. I took DSLR Video as well. She locked eyes with the camera long enough for me to take an image I am very proud of.

Personally, it's a strong image with lots of stories going on: the way she is caged, bound, almost jailed. The way the construction is poorly put together, and of course the scabs on her legs. In the middle of that, is an angel face.

1 BILLION people in our world live in slums now. Their story has to be told.

The Edit: Some HDR toning with adjustment masks, some desaturation, and a little but of this and that. Nothing major.

The Prediction: If people see this for what it is, they will be kind, but this is not a typical image that does well at DPC. I hope it does well and that people relate to the emotion depicted here. This is life day in day out for this child, and I wonder what she is doing today. 6.0000????

that is a sad picture of reality. but it puts things in perspective...

This is a strong image. I love the look on her face and I love how you composed it. The kid is central, the lines in the image are great also because they direct you to the kid. This shows that portraits are also about the context, not just about shooting someone nicely. Well done!

Back to comment... and to bump up. This is unbelievable sad. To see those sores on her arms and legs which will probably become scars just wrenches my heart. But good for you for exposing it to whoever is brave enough to look.

Pretty sure we can figure out the photographer here. Great job. Only critic is the bucket in the upper left corner. A bit distracting, but thats me looking for something.
