The Falkirk wheel, which is a large mechanical device used to link the Forth & Clyde and Union canals.

The wheel replaced a series of gates which took a barge around half a day to pass through, now it takes 15 minutes to go from one canal to the other.

I'm guessing I'll lose a lot of points becasue it will be difficult for those that don't know the structure to relate it to "Wheels".

Very cool photo. And what an amazing piece of machinery!

Here's a video showing it in action: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=n61KUGDWz2A

This is fascinating. I just looked this up because I had honestly never heard of it before. What a feat of engineering, and perfectly represented here. Fantastic composition and great treatment of tones and processing. One of the more striking images to begin with, but also done really well and an interesting story. Sweet.

In all honesty, I originally just gave this a 6. But I've spent some time looking at it, and found so much more to this photo than I saw in my initial pass-through. Just love the shapes and contours of this structure, and the use of B&W was inspired. Only thing I would "recommend" is to drop the exposure on the sky a little bit (either a graduated filter or some burning) to really bring out the structure and let it stand out more. Irrespective of that one comment, I have revised my initial score and given this an 8. Well done!

egg on my face, i didn't see any sort of wheel in there, with the exception of the title. however, i researched this "so called wheel" and wow that thing is amazing. bumped my original score up.

great exposure, contrast and reflection.

Brilliant reflection, really suits the B&W, hope others understand the type of wheel it is.

Had to Google this to find out what it was. Fascinating - and nicely captured in your pic.
