I went for a long overdue run with my dog during the only nice, sunny day in Oregon in the winter and decided to take my pinwheel to shoot it in the park. Normally it just rains. Ultimately, I found a spot, under the trees, and to get this shot, I had to lay on my stomach. The ground under the trees was still extremely wet from the rain from previous days. I was laying on my stomach, on mud trying to take this shot.

*Hello from the Critique club*

First Impression: hum.. whats going on here, some colors are a bit to bright and others a bit to bland. Some thing bugs me about the composition.

Composition /Background: background looks nice what lacks in composition is probably the busyness of the image as a whole. And the fact that the pinwheel isn straigt, i think the photo needs a strong leading line

Post Processing: even though the colors are a bit much, i think it's them that give this photo its charm. I would have croped quite alot of the botom ground part so you couldn't see where the wheel was dug in.

Challenge: Out of the box ideas like this have a way of geting grumpy voters to vote even grumpyer. Im not saying go inside the box, just expect a few hars votes.

Overall: A few minor issues coming together make the shot a bit photographicly awkward. Believe you me, this is not bad for a 1st enter, i think i got around 3.6 on most of my first enterys so keep them comming!

I would have voted 6

Happy shooting :)

Love this. Immediately made me smile. That pretty little pinwheel standing tall in a harsh world.

96th? I love this shot -- the bright yellow pinwheel against the steely gray sky. I thought it was very creative. Great 1st entry that was totally unappreciated.

Love this pinwheel as daffodil as sun turbine. (It is a lovely pinwheel by the way).

Way to think outside the box. Creative

Clever. I'm not entirely sold on the shallow depth of field, however. On the one hand I like the dream quality it gives the image, and it certainly places focus on the pinwheel, yet on the other the photo seems a bit off balance because of the clarity in the needles and ground.

I typically like a wide range of exposure values, but I think the clarity and lighting on the ground is not helping you that much. It's not really interesting for the image, and is actually distracting.

Try this with a square crop starting from the top of your image and I think it would be excellent. It would eliminate the distracting ground and really frame the pinwheel. The rest is really well done and creative.
