 I had no plans whatever to enter any challenges. But my renewal came up. I decided to 'save my DPC portfolio' and so I re-upped my membership. I had a few shots that I thought would do nicely in my portfolio and entered.

Yep- the background is a distraction on at least one monitor I reviewed this - but I was reluctant to 'clean it up and blank it out' for fear of disqualification. i probably should have desaturated it so it was merely b/w blobs but it has been a while since I enetered for DPC so my DPC chops are a bit out of practice....

Post Challenge: Thanks for the kind comments and votes on my shot of our puppy. She loves the snow and really doesn't mind having snow thrown on her face - as long as a cookie is involved after the fact....

The background is the background - serves a marvelous purpose of just being there (and it is not at all distracting) to support the marvelous face in the foreground! Your chops are just fine.

Very cute. Nice angle. Great sharpness and use of DOF on his face. Wish his eye were a bit more visable, but other than that a great image.

Love this photo!

However, I gave it a lower score than I wanted for these reasons:

In editing, the whites in the snow were over-blown white bumping up the contrast/brightness. This is bad because the white over takes the snow on his face. The whites need to be even.

I like the horizontal orientation but I feel it needs to be taller to complement the long shape of the dog's face.

Very cute, well focused and exposed. Processing seems to have gone wrong. If you are not seeing the splotches of grey around the background then its your monitor hiding them. At the right angle its obvious (optimal to low) and Optimal to High on bad LCD's like the worse of my two when it inverts u can see everything. But a a certain point you miss it, hope this doesn't hurt your score but people will spot things as it will not show the same on every monitor. Especially a calibrated one.
