 Model is shot through a magnifying glass (the kind that came with my Oxford English Dictionary, compact edition), which is an inch or two behind the match, which is imaged directly by a 100mm macro lens. This is upside-down relative to how the camera saw it (hence the direction of the flame).

The challenge was to "Use a magnifying glass in some creative way", and I had just done something like this a few weeks ago for another purpose, and thought something similar would make for a good submission to the challenge.

Interesting. I hope to see how you did this in the notes. I'm guessing part of the exposure with the magnifying glass, part without (making use of multiple flash pops).

Had you not put that it was shot through a magnifying glass I would have never known. Good detail on the match but the woman is too blurred IMO.

I hope you are willing to share how you shot this. I can't figure out how to invert the flame without inverting her arm also.
As for scoring the photo, I almost bought into the soft focus but her underarm being in focus distracted my eye.

Great concept- a little lost on the final product. What perspective is the viewer coming from? Match head detail is cool.
