Challenge: Magnifying Glass (Basic Editing)
Camera: Olympus E-520
Date: Jan 2, 2011
Date Uploaded: Jan 2, 2011

"Use a magnifying glass in some creative way." That was the challenge description. If mounting a Fresnel magnifier to a toilet paper tube and stuffing the thing into your lens mount isn't creative use of a magnifying glass, then I don't know what is. It met the challenge just fine.

As far as focus, it's in perfect relative focus. Blurry perhaps, but not out of focus.

Happy New Year.

I'm not certain, but as far as I know, this may be the first time you've posted a photo of yourself on DPC. (Not counting the childhood shot you used as a profile pic for a while.)

Wonderful capture... the most creative use of a magnifying glass in this challenge.

This was one of my favorites of the challenge. I like the comp and blur. That is an alien eye!

I'll bet you always have a "twinkle" in your eye!

There is something very alien and malevolent about that milky eye with a twinkle, and the conspiratorial way that face is creeping into view from the very edge. Have you drugged my drink? Are you moving in to check if I am still conscious, or even breathing? You fiend, you...

really? "has to"? besides, this image would be completely different without the magnifying glass. Therefore, it does "show" the magnifying glass. It's obvious to me.

freaky shot but the sparkle in the eye is very cool

Oooo, that eye is scary, and the composition is very unusual. I like it.

DNMC. I know the title says there is a magnifying glass, but the picture should stand on its own. This is simply an out of focus picture.

bizarre catchlight, creates a eerie, sci-fi feel, an image full of potential. Bumping to 9 for your persistence in getting this imaging; I'm guessing it was not easy. I tried this, a SP, as well.

Hate the explanatory title... but LOVE the image! Well done! But, I do have to add that I don't like the shot not including a magnifying glass in a Magnifying Glass challenge. (not voting)

I like what I see. The grain, the tones, the blur, the shadows.
Very interesting portrait.

For me this image doesn't meet the challenge. With no view of the magnifying glass I have no idea if one was used or if the image is simply out of focus. Something more half half may have worked better here.

Had you not put it in your title I would have just thought this was OOF.

I really like this - both concept and image.

I like the concept, but id say its lacking, it may just be me but id like it crisp
