 The Image: My favourite place: Melbourne Airport behind the runway where planes come in every few minutes. I love the sun in this image. Shot with a 10mm-20mm zoom at the wide end.

The Edit: I tweaked levels, applied a Nik Software filter for the colour. I usually do this through layer masks with colour correction but this preset worked well. Happy with the result. A little Noise Ninja, and some vibrance, saturation adjustments.

The Prediction: Low 6's...

I don't know why some of these shots are ho-hum and others are astonishing. Maybe you do.

I like this one ... as soon as they announced this challenge, I had envisioned a bunch of people going to get photos looking up at the steel and glass of a building ... I like this photo, not only for the photo and editing, but also for the fact it's something different ...

Gorgeous sunburst! Not sure if I would have kept the yellow or desaturated it. Or maybe punted and gone with B&W. Still, a stunning job on the exposure IMO; there's even another little sunburst on a reflection on the plane!

A ribbon winner in my book. The crisp burst/flare, the blue/gold filter, the still visible details on the plane - all add up to a very nice perspective picture complemented by a nice title. The border's distracting a little bit, especially considering that the clouds already form a natural border for the picture.

FABULOUS solar flare. This almost looks like it was shot through a polarized glass with a polarizer lens. Weird and wonderful colors make this plane seem like it's leaving for a fantasy.
