 I visited The Grinter House in Kansas City, Kansas yesterday. The Grinter House is a State historical site. Mr. Grinter was a military gentleman in the 1800s who was commissioned by the US government to build and operate a ferry service to take goods and people across the Kansas River. Annie, a Delaware Native American, was Grinter's wife.

Numerous decendants of the Grinter family still live in the Kansas City area and provided stories related to the Grinters. One of those stories is that Annie Grinter always had a pocket sewn onto the front of her dresses. the pocket stored this pipe and pouch of tobacco. Annie was likely never seen smoking the pipe in public (as it would not have been ladylike)

The idea behind the Posthumous Ribbon is to encourage you to break the rules, to find new and different ways to express yourself. To free your mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certain to come, to laugh at world and at life, not doing what others are expecting you to do, but just following and listening to what's in your heart. DPC it̢۪s a wonderful learning place where everyone should be supported on their way to be a photographer. A special attention should be aimed to those working hard with different views and approaches to photography, those not aligned with the mainstream taste and receiving no recognition. It̢۪s our responsibility to support these photographers creating diversity and expressing different visions. Being active at the Posthumous thread it̢۪s the best way to do it. I have looked at this multiple times and like it a little more each time. Not sure what else to say other than I have it up to 8 now and may still bump it up higher. I'm looking forward to how others comment on this.

I don't know what Annie's Secret is, which is of course a good thing or it wouldn't be a secret. I like enigma and so I like this photograph. Nice tones too.

But what it IS the secret?? I love it. The title in combination with the image is fabulous. The dark tones, composition, diffuse... everything... My first 10 so far in the challenge.
