 Taken on a sad day when we said a final goodbye to David Fairbanks, my piano teacher. He had a good and full life. He graced the world with music and, to those who listened, a wonder-full sense of humor.

As I saw it in the camera. Minimal cloning removed petal imperfections and background distractions. Levels to adjust exposure. Burning removed further background anomalies. Sharpened both before and after resizing, first with USM, then with sharpen. Not happy with the faded tip of the petal the bug is on...but it's close to what one might achieve in the darkroom and one does have to put a limit on how much time is spent on a photo. (Predicting a 5.5., optimistically.)

Altenate title was "Try This!" But that was chosen with a tighter crop. This in-camera crop has more balance between positive and negative space, foreground and background, sharp and blur. I suspect it's a bit dark for some monitors. (Darn antennae! They're only one pixel wide before you compress!)

I don't think that can really be called balance... Nice clear shot though.

Nice shot. Fits the challenge, colors are good. I'm jealous. Sunflower is my favorite flower and mine haven't bloomed yet :)
