In one of the subway stations in Oslo, there is an area that used to be some sort of shop or cafe but is no longer in use. Apparently, some artist has been given permission to use it as an exhibition area, and the exhibition simply consists of this light sign and the cardboard wrapping it came in.
It was hard to get a good shot of the sign, as it was in a room behind some VERY dirty glass windows. In the end I found a spot where the glass was slightly less dirty, and was able to cover the tip of the lens with my hand to avoid reflections from behind.
I originally wanted to enter this for the Reflections challenge, but in the end decided to enter a picture in the Military challenge instead and decided this would be a good fit for Off-Centered Subject. I was planning on using the original color (pink-ish red) of the sign and rather desaturate the other colors (the wall behind is a horrible shade of orange), but I couldn't get those colors to work the way I wanted to so in the end I decided to go with split toning instead.
PP was done in Lightroom and consists of cropping, B/W processing, split toning with slightly yellow highlights vs slightly blue midtones, misc tweaking of exposure, black levels etc, noise reduction and finally export to JPG.

I wanted to come back and look at this to see the details (my curiosity got the best of me). For me, the fact that it's another artist's piece detracts slightly, but not for the most part. To me, I think you have created your own depiction, your own interpretation. I think I like the bw more than color, as well. The red would strike me as too vibrant, lively, for the message. The weight would be lessened in my eye. Good job, and bummer it didn't score higher.
This photo just really makes me want to know the backstory of things. But, at the same time, I'm almost hesitant to find out, preferring perhaps instead what I've constructed from my own experience.
Great shot.
