Challenge: Balance (Advanced Editing II)

It was almost pitch black outside when I took this shot. Just some remnants of the sunset behind me, which gave some contrast to the sky and clouds in front of me.
Shot using my kit lens (18-55mm) at 18mm to get the most wide angle distortion possible. Also used the flash to help lighten up the dark foreground.
That is the balance: getting the elements properly lit up.
Shot using tripod (duh!). Exposure for 30 seconds, using RAW mode. Converted using EVU and increased exposure by 1 stop. Also adjusted the white balance as well, to 4200. I tried a 4 minute exposure at smaller aperture, but it created too much motion in the sky, so I
decided to use the shorter exposure and pump it up in post.
In PS7: crop to 8x10. Saturation, levels, spot edits to eliminate hot pixels, slight D&B, resize, USM, border.
I can hear the comments already:
1. Where is the balance?
2. Hate the border.
3. Love the border.
4. Too much red or yellow.
Oh well, I really wanted to attempt a complicated exposure, and try to balance the light just right. So here is my attempt. I hope some of you like it. |

| Yes it is, nicely done. This will seem ridiculous, but, in the great shot you present, the thing I want to mention most is the puple flower in the front. Great DOF. This would have score really well in the Deep DOF challenge. |

| wow ... this shot is beatiful ... the colors are stunning, but I'm not sure how well it meets the challenge ... I dont really see "balance in the light" . its a shame b/c I realy like this pic. |

| I love the sky & contrast to the orange light. Might consider cloning out the flowers in the foreground or cropping out the rock completely for an even more powerful image. |

| pretty light - the gold and blue go so well together. I like the rocks and flowers inthe foreground - subtle but make a nice frame. The line on illuminted masts make a wonderful center line, and the sky hold its own with dramatic clouds. well done! 8 |
