 A few years back I attended an excellent workshop on "Preparing your artist's statement", organized by Bob Singer at the Cape Cod Art Association, whose camera club I belonged to. In working on a statement I realized that I'm often drawn to capturing images that are abstract in nature. I've always been intrigued by patterns in the natural world, probably reinforced by my background in mathematics and training as an epidemiologist...

Well a few years passed and after looking at my DPC images this summer I have decided to become more deliberate about shooting abstract images and entering them in DPC challenges, even though they do not traditionally score very well. This submission is a result of that decision.

Taken, initially with the mid-day sun challenge in mind, of parts of three fishing boats at a pier in New Bedford, MA.

This is kind of like a tease. You want to see more but you can't. Great colors.

Lack of a interesting subject. Thinking maybe you were going for the lines and colors in the photograph to be the main focus.

I like the mix of colors. the light on the left is kind of harsh, though.

Love the continuity of the shadows and lines from one boat to the other. Some colorfully fun geometry to appreciate here.

The only think I don't like about this shot is that it isn't mine! I LOVE this shot, abstraction & reality, form and color, texture and smoothness. 10
