Wow ...excellent shot Rick. And congratz on the Yellow ribbon. I missed this and some of your other work as I was under the impression that you weren't around here anymore. |

wow... just revisiting the shot and saw the comments.
Absolutely ridiculous! Look at the shadows! Sorry someone gave you a hard time. It meets the challenge perfectly. It's a compliment to your photographing/editing skills that the person thought it wasn't midday sun. :) |

Totally valid as a midday shot, and as such, very impressive. |

I'd like to disagree. Looking at the shadows the sun is pretty much from above. Looking at the exif-info it says: 2010:10:22 12:48:27. So it's certainly around mid day (provided the clock in the camera is more or less correct).
Great shot that well deserves its placement. |

Scott-
I am sorry that you are so bitter. This photo was shot in mid day and under bright sun. It was also verified by DPChallenge as a legal edit. I followed the same ruled as everyone else. You can see a small hot spot on the neck and you can easily see the shadow on the end of the stick.
Perhaps you require some anger management counseling?

You are a very accomplished photographer and you've put out some truly amazing stuff... but... as wonderful as this is, and it is, it's not a harsh-sun shot. I'll be the ass in the room. This has nothing to do with harsh, midday sun. Great shot, yes. Stole a ribbon from someone who shot for the challenge, yes. |

beautiful image. i like the brown background. It complements the bird. Perfect focus. With respect to the challenge, I think this was an easy and safe option to meet it. Birds don't frown, nor squint under the sun. They don't get panda eyes. This is a very beautiful photo, with lots of technical merit. But it doesn't show how you were able to overcome the challenge of taking a photo of a subject under harsh daylight because birds really look good under any type of daylight.
Outside the context of the challenge, i really like this photo. |
