Upper Beaver Meadows in Rocky Mountain National Park. At 9000', this is late in the season for fall colors.
10/20/10 3:27:46 PM MDT, which would be 2:27 PM standard time. While it is past noon, it's still midday and that's about as high as the sun gets in the southern sky this time of year.
This photograph demonstrates the harsh shadows and bright highlights at midday and how they can be managed, even under Basic Editing rules.
I would have cloned out the minor lens flares had this been under Advanced Editing rules. But, it's Basic, so they stayed in.

| This is an excellent photo and it got a 9 from me. I know how difficult this shot is, and the composition and colors are phenomenal. I love the contrast of the stark dead tree vs. the exploding yellow/orange on the right. Congrats on the well deserved great score and finish. |
