I had a chance while visiting family in Albuquerque, to go to an open studio session that one of the local pros offers every Wednesday night. People sign up in advance for an hour of studio time and everyone else hangs out. As the night goes on it becomes more of a party. I wandered around watching and mingling for a while. Eventually, these guys that were shooting in the yard, invited me to join them and handed me a radio popper. I got a few interesting pics, especially dramatic when I switched to my 10-24. Towards the end, I realized this might make a good entry for this challenge, so I had the model pose with the gun stock against his boot. Just by good fortune the dog wandered through the background right then, and I think that added a lot to the scene. Not expecting this is going to meet with broad appeal, but it's got interesting lighting and probably a different subject from what most of the challenge will be. Though it is actually a studio setup, I think it works well as a portrait of someone without their face.
Last minute update to tone down the reds a little, once I had a chance to look at it on my usual monitor. Still warm looking though, which I think works.
Anticipated critiques:
-Awkward composition/cropped too tight
-Would have liked to see the other leg in the frame
-Dog in background is distracting
-Skin tones too red

| LOVE the dog in the frame - very serendipitous, indeed! Would like to have had more of the other foot - feels just a bit off balance as is. Yikes - just read the comment about Old Yeller... that does make it kinda sad. |

A great photo that tells a good story, surprised it didn't vote higher. I only have a couple critiques:
-Awkward composition/cropped too tight
-Would have liked to see the other leg in the frame
-Dog in background is distracting
-Skin tones too red |

Loved this one - made me a little sad though, as soon as I saw it, it reminded me of the book "Old Yeller". And if you've read the book, you know what happens!

| I quite liked this (gave a 7) and I'm glad it finished so well. I think I prefer the tighter crop than that posted in the outakes. The title made me smile (I thought Grog was too young to know Latin?). |

| Certainly one of the more interesting shots of the challenge. Peculiar and interesting on many levels. Processing is superb. I suppose it's a below the knee portrait. All in all nice work and a well deserved top ten. Congrats. |
