 Snaffles and I were just about to leave Gateneau Park. When I noticed this water bug. He was just off the main stream, in a small pool. So I threw on the macro lens and the flash. Exposed for the reflected background and let the flash, lite the bug. Camera was handheld, as this guy didn't stay still long! Flash was on high speed mode, to help with sharpness. Dust and dirt spots on the water, were removed in DPP.

Loong time ago I last saw this animal (which I don't know the name of). Used to go fishing with me dad in a river when I was a kid, and they were everywhere.
Nice photo, never seen the details on one before.

Phew! I've seen mosquitoes floating on water before but never in this detail. Nicely done. My top 10. 'Surface Tension' might've made a more appropriate caption?
