I think that you were too close to the subject so that your camera couldn't focus. Not much of a tribute I'm afraid. |

Here you will probably always get a lower vote for soft-focus or out-of-focus pictures unless people ae completely convinced it's deliberate and necessary. In this case, I'd have recommended using the narrower aspect ratio (640x427) to draw more attention to the eyes. I'd have probably gone all "arty" if I really wanted to use THIS shot -- I have messed around with it and posted it at pBase at:

If you don't want anyone else to see, let me know and I'll delete it. |

Way too out of focus. It seems your camera is not capable of focusing at this close a range. Either stick to shots that the camera is capable of or take the shot from a distance and crop down to what you want (losing resolution, of course).
Also the light isn't complimenting her any - it's highlighting a shiny forehead and the bags beneath the eyes. This could be solved by softer lighting and/ or foundation powder!
:)
Pretty eyes she has though! |

You seem to have a focus problem. I don't know what camera you used, but you were likely too close for it to focus properly. The best solution might be to back up a bit, and crop the image to get the framing you want. :) |

I would have rated this much higher if the eyes had been in focus. Your composition is striking and there is a very strong subject. BAMartin |

Focus is too soft for my taste. Not sure if it was supposed to be romantic soft focus, or just too close for lens capability. Lighting is good, composition is good. Model's expression is great. Would just have liked it sharper. 6 would have been 8 with sharper focus. |

not even in focus. Nice blue eyes though :) |

Soft focus? Prolly not a good thing for this close. A bit heavy on the glare, too. (Powder helps!) 5 Swash |

Subject matter is good, but the clarity is off. Cropping is also good. |

Your "partner's" blue eyes are blurry. Whooops. |

Greetings from the Critique Club :)
I believe I understand your intentions with this photo. The blue eyes are the subject.... What I find particularly disturbing with this photo is the lack of focus. If you did this intentionally, I don't see where it adds impact to the image. I think that this image could also create more visual impact if you tilted the camera just a bit to add a more bizarre approach to the composition.
I feel fairly confident that your comments this week will be centered around the focus moreso than anything else.

Sad that it is not in focus! Otherwise it would be the best "blue-eye"-shot of this challenge |
