After hours of searching, I finally found some information on this seemingly unknown memorial for 911. This is the "Makeshift Memorial" by J. Seward Johnson. Some really good background information on this statue can be found here: //www.flickr.com/photos/sheenachi/3128783357/

It just so happened that I had a short trip to NJ which started basically when this challenge was announced. At first I was going to try for something with the Statue of Liberty, but when I stumbled upon this, I felt it would make a more powerful image. This seems to be a "living memorial" as people leave trinkets by it, so it's never quite the same.

Post Processing (Aperture):
* Crop
* Move white balance to be warmer
* Increase exposure and brightness
* Increase contrast and definition
* Increase saturation with decreased vibrancy
* Increase shadows
* Levels
* Edge Sharpen
* Export to 720px tall
* Unsharp Mask (Pixelmator)
* Export for Web (Pixelmator)

I wish this were an advanced editing challenge, as I think this image could be even more powerful with some vignetting.

The light here, and depth of field is pretty good. It is a shame, though, that we can't see the face of the statue. Just IMO.
