Clarity is awesome. So this is the HDR feature they were predicting? I haven't done the update yet - it's not just for the iPhone 4, works with the 3Gs too, so I'll have to do it. The clarity and depth is amazing. |

Beautiful tones. The image sparkles. Very nice! I hate to think how far out you leaned to get this shot. |

Beautiful colours, really love the warm glow of the lights disappearing in to the distance. |

The new HDR option for the iPhone 4 is pretty neat. To me it is mostly exposure bracketing and simply takes three images very quickly (seems like one click) and then blends the best of all three automatically in just a few seconds. The HDR version is saved along with a standard image on your camera roll. It seems to work best on images with high dynamic range to begin with. So it will keep the bright sky from blowing out behind a darker subject in the foreground for instance. Where it hinders is with a shot that has fairly even dynamic range- it tends to lessen the appealing contrast. With normal and HDR copies going to your camera roll it's easy to decide which one works best. And it's very easy to turn the HDR feature off if you want to.
This shot only benefited from HDR slightly, but I did some other tests where it was a big advantage.
Something I will be curious about is whether 3rd party apps will start to do HDR more. It seems the vintage style apps will want limited dynamic range instead... |

oooh - Thanks for sharing an HDR with the new phone. I'm afraid I don't have that option =(
What do you think of it? - how does it get the HDR? |

Nice view and good light. This would probably do well in a challenge. The iPhone seems to take nice sharp pics. |
