This is an ode to Ben Roberts, as well as an ode to Canon as this is my first submission with my new Rebel.

The way I interpret this photo is that the love (heart) is what is needed in the beginning to make anything, especially music. Any composer knows that balance is needed (in all of the arts) and this is symbolized by the time it took for me to have the filter stay upright (no tape, etc. was used). That is hopefully the most obvious way that this meets the challenge, but the following was what I originally had in mind when I thought of applying this idea. Harmony is essential to any melody line in music and that is what is the balance of everything; "There cannot be love without those beside you." A little metaphorical---I like it!

Telesar R2 is the filter.
Set up was a piano lamp with music resting on a piano bench.

Expected score - 5.2xxx

Hello Lee from the Critique Club

This is a very nice image, but I think your score suffered from the fact that this type of image has been used before. Not original in itself although you have used sheet music instead of a book but first glance voters would not notice that ( In my opinion)
Lighting at the top of the page seems too bright and this may be helped by lowering your mid tonal values.

Apart from the top third which is soft but that could be intentional
It has very good focus and colour
The image fits the challenge
Almost got the score you wanted and maybe like I said before if this had been the first time with this type of image it would have done better
So enjoy your photography
Good luck in future Challenges
If you have any questions please feel free to P M me
Regards
Sally

Is this inspired by one of Ben (Konador) 's images? Lovely idea. Exposure/ lighting at top of page isn't ideal.

I'm sure you've heard this: If this isn't Konadors shot, it is very close to it! Nicely setup, doen't like how pages look pink

I think this idea has been done too many times already, not very orginal as others have probably have said. Highlights are a bit blown at the top.

I've tried to disregard that i have seen something very similiar in other challenges but it is hard to now see this as a new idea, besides that this shows balance well without the need of the title but the title also adds another dimension. well done.

Cool idea, excellent title. A little more DOF and the top of the filter would be in focus.

WOW, this is sure original...

This is a good, well executed image. Comp, balance, DOF and color are great. The white along the top is a bit blown out.

The first time something like this was done, it got very good marks for innovation and degree of difficulty. But you don't have to be a rocket scientist to build the second atom bomb.

Still, it's a good image and I gave it a good score.

This is a konador type shot? no?
07/21/2004 05:41:19 PM
hmmmm.. is this from the same person that made the photograph just like this recently in a challenge? I think it's too soon too see this one again.... same person or not.

This image is not a flaw in the DPC code is it? I think I have seen it done a few times before on DPC. I am not going to vote this image down because I have seen similar images before. What you have achieved is beautiful except for the top part of the image and colours on the sheets. Learning is about making an attempt. Best of luck.

It's great! But I am sure others will say its become cliche or done too much. Exposure is right on, composition is right on - good luck on overcoming the bias.

overdone

This has been done before by Konador (ribbon here at DPC if I remember right). Only difference I see is the book is different. The shot is very well executed, but total lack of originality ends in lower score.

C'mon! This is becoming impossible to vote on without bias. This is a good shot that I've seen several times in different variations. How about some originality?
07/18/2004 09:48:32 PM
have i seen this before????????????
07/18/2004 09:23:35 PM
man this is as unoriginal as it gets!
07/18/2004 09:19:25 PM
OverDone !, can't see that anymore, but really beautifull picture... i hesitate... 1-2-1-2.. ok a7
