I was nothing short of frustrated after I shot this. My Sigma DP2 seems to have a faulty (or just worn) shutter release button. The picture I wanted was of the dog just in the light and the people still in the shadows. It took two or three presses to get it to take the damn picture, and this is what I ended up with. As serendipity would have it, it's probably better than what I had in mind. It's not the first time that the camera, and not me, decided when to take the picture and came back (probably) with something better.

And who says you can't shoot at midday? This was shot with a fast shutter underneath an overpass in bright overhead sunshine. No crop or post-processing outside of my raw editor.

Thanks for all the comments. Paul, who knows what people on the street here think of me. The guy in this scene did see what I was up to, but probably dismissed me after seeing me fumble with and subsequently cuss at my camera. So it goes...

lol - i love that little tail. the contrasts are great too (I shoot at midday as well). This should have finished with a score higher than mine for sure.

contrast is stunning. Plenty of mystery.

I gave this a 6. I felt it was good street photography and I did appreciate the quirkiness. It didn't resonate with me strongly enough for a higher vote, but it did deserve something on the positive side of the scale.

Can't even tell what sort of dog (or rat) is being walked. Fun image.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Lovely stuff! Great high contrast image that tells a story but leaves much to the imagination. It makes me wonder what they thought of you as you walked by.

Critical stuff: I think I might have been tempted to set the highlight level a little higher.

Overall: Nice work - always a joy to see such pieces in a FS.

Thanks goodness for shots like this! Nice to get away from the typical DPC challenge shot with high contrast, HDR, or a popular voter subject, etc. Kudos to you...and I'm giving this a high score for being well shot and interesting to look at! :)

Interesting capture. I like how the background shows another light area with another walker.
