Challenge: Freedom II (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Sigma SD9
Location: metro bus station
Date: Jul 7, 2004
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Date Uploaded: Jul 9, 2004

I took this at the bus depot. He was having a bad morning. Looked a bit rough, totally in his own world. After I took this one I went over and talked with him and asked if I could take some pictures. I wanted the viewer to get the feeling of being boxed in with him and having no way out so I cropped close. The border was added for the same reason and I reduced the saturation to give him a faded "past his prime" look.
I desaturated down to 20%, some sharpening, clarify, burned to give a dirty gritty feeling and left the noise in. Had another name but that was mentioned in the forums so I renamed it.
lens 28/300 at 54mm handheld
I wanted this to be named "Just another name for nothing left to lose". Thought it fit perfect.

He does not seem free, but burdoned by heavy burdons.

A great picture but it doesn't convey the challenge theme to me. It conveys contemplation, worry, despair, boredom - many things. But the concept of freedom isn't one of them for me.

Very moving picture and perfect balance of soft colors. The connection to the challenge may be seen as a bit of a stretch for most voters I think.

Great work here. Top 5 for sure. I love the tones and textures. It looks like James Dean. 10

There is just not enough context to make a connection to the challenge. It is a youngish, white man with his head in his hands, possibly blockin his ears. He appears to be upset or in deep thought. His clothes and his enviroment don't offer enough clues. I've thought about it and I still haven't figured it out. Sorry.

Wow...spectacular...the tones are almost unreal. Was there application of NeatImage? Nevertheless, a great photo; a lot of expression--a 10 from me.
