Taken just outside my house as the sun was setting. I have been starting to practice silhouette photos a bit, as I really like that style. For this one, I placed a pine cone at the end of a branch, and brought in the branch from a corner. I Like how I wisely used negative space to show the sunset and the rays coming through the clouds.
Post processing (in Aperture): Cropped, sharpened, reduced noise, adjusted white balance to be warmer, increased exposure, recovered highlights slights, increased black point, decreased brightness, increased contrast, increased saturation, increased shadow detail, brought in endpoints of levels, adjusted colors (saturated warms, desaturated cools), and finally used a brush to intensify contrast in the sky to bring out the light rays a bit more. |

I feel confused by this shot. I'm not really sure if it's a shot of a sunset or a minimalist silhouette or both. Maybe it's because the shape is a little complex. If it were a simpler silhouette shape maybe? |
