My new favorite type of potato is the Yukon Gold. It has a very buttery/smooth taste which works well with pretty much any dish.
I got this idea laying in bed Wednesday morning before waking up. It's not exactly how I pictured it in my head, but I still like the result. Plus, I learned a ton about how to use my new homemade light tent :)
Setup for this included the potato with a hole cut out to push the lightbulb through. I had a method of lighting the bulb, but it was too bright and I didn't have a dimmer on hand. So instead I used a small LED flashlight to light up the bulb from behind. The potato was sitting on a cardboard box that I painted black, and propped up slightly (to give a feeling of extra depth) with my lens cap. This was all inside a light tent made from PVC, a bed sheet, to table lamps, and a black piece of background fabric. I also pointed a flash at the ceiling to bounce down and light the top of the potato so it looked more natural.
In post processing (all in Aperture to the RAW file), I cropped, increased sharpness, changed white balance, increased exposure, increased recovery, increased the black point, decreased brightness, slightly increased shadows, moved white and black points of levels in, increased saturation and decreased luminance of yellow, and then did some extra sharpening. |
